Map of Nonprofit Startup Resources by State

Do you have an idea for a nonprofit, but not sure where to begin? The Foundation Center has collected the best resources from organizations across the country and listed them in one place to help you start off your nonprofit on the right path.

Their new Map of Nonprofit Startup Resources by State provides links to helpful resources such as state associations, legal support organizations, and government agencies that provide information on forming a nonprofit in all fifty states and U.S. territories. Find out where to go to incorporate, where to register before raising funds, and which organizations offer management or technical assistance for nonprofits in your area.

245 new Grantmakers were added in August to the Foundation Directory Online database!

Foundation Directory Online update

30,976 new grants were added to the Foundation Directory Online database in June, bringing the total to 2,166,669.

In the grants database you can search by recipient type or recipient name to see grants that have been awarded to organizations like yours or to branches of your organization located in other cities. You can link from this information to the grantmaker profile to develop your prospect list of potential funders.

Stop into the Central Library to access the Foundation Directory Online database and learn how you can benefit from using this resource.

Foundation Directory Online April numbers

Latest counts for the Foundation Directory Online . Visit the Nonprofit Resource Center to use this useful database.

98,062: The current universe of foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities in the U.S. By far the largest percentage of these (74%) are independent foundations.

501,683: The names selectable in the Trustees, Officers, and Donors index on the Search Grantmakers screen. These are all the trustees, officers, and donors associated with the grantmakers in the database. Using the People tab in the grantmaker profile, you can also see any other companies and organizations with which they're affiliated.

2,102,440: All the grants of $1,000 or more awarded by the grantmakers in the database dating back to 2003.

3,994: Companies that sponsor a foundation and/or one or more corporate giving programs. Each company profiles contains information on the company itself as well as links to grantmaker or grantmakers that it sponsors in the grantmakers database.

683,108: All the 990s and 990-PFs in our database. You can search these by keyword, year authorized, or one or more grantmaker-specific fields.

Foundation Directory Online

The Foundation Directory Online database is a freely accessible database to all visitors to the Robert P. Kinchen Central Library. This database has detailed information on more than 90,000 grantmakers and 900,000 recently awarded grants.

73 new foundations have been added to the database this week!
